So I added a wash of green, burnt sienna and gamboge and used saran wrap stretched to give it some texture. I also added some masking fluid to the horse in order to save the highlights, especially in his mane and the fern grass in front of his front leg.
I am using Arches watercolor board for this.
I struggle a little with masking fluid, have used the orange colored mask as well as the clear, the orange colored fluid made it hard for me to see the colors I was painting with, but I lose the clear and find this difficult to remove at times, any tips from my watercolor painting readers on masking would be much appreciated, thanks!
Hi Maria,
ReplyDeleteI've used Pebeo, which is a light grey-blue, so not too distracting. Apparently the Winsor/Newton is good, and it's the same neutral color.
Thanks for the tip, I will try this next time, I appreciate the help.
ReplyDeleteI know this is going to be beautiful when it is done. I can feel it! I need to kick my butt in gear now the holidays are over and get to painting again.
ReplyDeleteWow.. Can't wait to see the finished painting!! Love it so far.
ReplyDeleteLee, it has been hard to paint with the holidays and kids at home and a complete change in the schedule, but I am now waiting to see what you will paint next, so the pressure is on!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jennifer, the progress on this has been slow....I will let you know how it comes along, and share any progress made!
It's looking good and it's fun to see your process. Thanks for posting your work in progress.
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful painting. I'm dying to see those horses on the Outer Banks. Friends visited there last summer and they were enchanted.
ReplyDeleteThanks Theresa for taking a look, I have made a little more progress, but I am envious of how much painting you have done, you have been so productive through the holidays, I look forward to your next work.
ReplyDeleteMary, it was so amazing, I wish I could live there and see them everyday, I hope to see Chincoteague and Assateague Island someday also, I will have my camera ready!
This is fascinating to watch and learn how you make such beautiful artwork. I am loving seeing the process!

ReplyDeleteThank you Megha, please visit some more, I promise to have new things! It has been fun and comments like yours keep me going back to the paintbrushes and paint....
