New Kid

watercolor sorrel horse
My painting for today is more of a watercolor sketch. This horse is one of the newest to the herd, and he stood off to himself in the snow, watching the others. It is so hard to be the new guy in town.
I have tried the rough watercolor paper with this sketch, have to use it some more to get used to it, have a hard time with detail on this paper!

  1. Your sketch is simple yet evokes that feeling of the horse cautiously watching the others as he stands off to himself. I like it!

  4. Thanks Gretchen and Kathryn, the rough paper has potential, but it sure feels different, It was nice to go back to the cold pressed paper, felt more familiar!

Taylor, your horse is so beautiful, love his mane and tail color, I am so glad you like it, I will email you.

  5. Beautiful sketch !
Rough paper is my paper of choice - and you can get detail, not photorealism, but it takes a bit of practice xx

  9. I vote that you buy as much of this rough paper as you CAN - and 'sketch' away! This is so beautiful, and your own voice is so visible... and the sentiment is poignant. I love every thing about it.
