I'll Leave A Light On, watercolor on paper

"I'll Leave A Light On", 8 by 10 inch watercolor ©Maria T Reichert 2011
This is a painting from a photo by Linda Gilbert, used with permission.  She posted a challenge for other artists to paint from her photo taken at Peggy's Cove, Halifax Canada.

It was such a beautiful photo, that I couldn't resist painting it.  See the others on her blog, they are all so wonderful and different, I see she has a new challenge posted as well.

What is it that is so romantic and peaceful about a lighthouse?  Something about the photo of a lighthouse just make you sigh and relax.  I had to think about this awhile, it is an awkward structure, blocking the view of the ocean, and yet they seem to hold a place in the heart of so many.

A lighthouse represents a beacon, guiding you in from sea, drawing you home, to safety, I can't ignore the imagery, maybe we are all looking for a light to follow, to bring us home, where we belong.  Hoping someone will leave a light on for us, that someone is waiting for us to come home.
