Christmas Portraits

WIP 11 by 14 watercolor on paper
A portrait I am working on.  Horse and owner, a bit challenged with the owner part. I wont be able to share the whole painting till after Christmas.  So challenging to get that likeness of painting to person.   I think it must take lots and lots of practice sketches and paintings.  But I am determined to figure it out.  Asked hubby for some watercolor portrait books for Christmas.  Does anyone have a favorite book ?!
Love this story of the off track thoroughbred showing in his first Grand Prix

  1. Hi Maria.
The horse is great! And as for portrait reference books, I recommend one by Mary Whyte, and another by Peggi Habets.

  2. I know what you mean about not being able to post until after christmas - I've got 3 paintings I can't post until after Christmas now - thanks for giving us this sneaky peak though! I was asked to do a pet portrait with the owner but I admitted to them that I wasn't as confident with human portraits so he let me off with just the pet thank goodness!
