Meet Betty, my new filing assistant

New art cellar furniture!  Flat file storage.
Working mostly in watercolor, I have storage needs for a lot of large sheets of paper, matting boards, as well as safe, dry storage for the finished paintings.

I have been searching on eBay, Amazon, and art stores for flat file cabinets,  but the new price was way out of my tiny artists' budget, and used files required a very large delivery fee or a day or two road trip to pick up.

BUT....On the way home form a vet convention last week, drove by a used office supply store, looked up the phone number and Edward, from Brooklyn, said they had one black flat file in stock at a VERY reasonable price.

The rest is somewhat of an I Love Lucy (remember Lucy and Ethyl?) or Laverne and Shirley episode...the drive into the city with the unsuspecting friend, bargaining with the dealer, counting out the cash down to the last penny, borrowing 5 dollars from that very good friend, (at least I didn't have to use the change from under the car seat), stuffing it into the back of the SUV, getting the kids to help get it out of the SUV, drawers falling out along the way..... a lot of giggling....I think you  have the picture now!

BUT.....I just LOVE her, I named her Betty.  Working on filling her up with wonderful paintings :)

  5. This will probably post twice, so I apologize in advance! I wasn't signed in the first time I made my comment. Betty is beautiful- lucky find! I am always looking for a Betty, but like you said, this stuff is expensive for we starving artists.

  6. Nice find!! I had to laugh at the money side of things...I so grew up with that kind of scrabbling to make ends meet. Sounds like it was a fun day though (who doesn't love giggles?).
