Porter the black Lab 8 by 10 watercolor

"Porter" 8 by 10 watercolor portrait on paper ©Maria's Watercolor Art, prints are available HERE
A portrait of Porter was requested by a group of coworkers for a friend who recently had to put this lab to sleep due to an inoperable tumor.

It was such a thoughtful gesture, so nice to have such good friends.   These paintings are always the hardest to do.  Try so hard to capture a personality on paper.

  1. Aw, that's a beautiful painting and a beautiful story. How wonderful that you use your artistic skills to give people these precious memories. I like the colors that you use, too, in your portraits. They really make the animal have a personality all its own.

    1. Thank you Katherine, it seems that when people do nice things no one ever gets to hear about it. She was very surprised and happy with her gift. I thinks sometimes a get a bit over the top with the color though, I do have to rein myself in at times :)

    1. Thank you so much Diana. It is nice to be able to give people a way to remember. I keep promising to paint a small watercolor of each of my own wonderful dogs I have been blessed with, and have yet to get to it!

  3. You always capture the soul of the animal and I know this person will be pleased to have this...and probably shed some tears too. It is gorgeous.

  4. Thank you such an amazing complement! It is hard to get a feel for them from just a photo or two, it is funny how much easier it is to paint from a pet you know well. So much easier to catch the essence of them:)
